International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada Luncheon
February 12, 2009 Chateau Laurier Hotel, Adam Room, 1 Rideau Street, Ottawa
A Showcase of How International Science Research Partnerships are Helping to Bolster Canada’s Economic Future
With investments by governments in science and technology emerging as key to long-term economic growth, and technology partnering between countries becoming vital to their trade and economic relations, the current economic crisis may benefit from studying the innovative model of international science research collaborations being led by ISTPCanada.
Since its launch in May 2007 - with a mandate by the Government of Canada to implement science and technology cooperation agreements with key trading partners such as India, China, Israel and Brazil - International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada (ISTPCanada) has helped foster millions of dollars of joint research and development (R&D) projects between Canadian and foreign scientists and technologists, which are accelerating the commercialization of products and services, and increasing international competitiveness and prosperity for Canada.
In attendance were ambassadors and dignitaries from 20 countries. Hosted by Stuart McCormack, Chairman of ISTPCanada Board of Directors and Henri Rothschild, President and CEO of ISTPCanada, the event highlighted current bi-lateral research initiatives with India, China and Brazil, a new strategic program with California that is serving as a template for overall Canada-U.S. science relations, and an initiative linking Canada, China and Israel in the key research sector of agriculture and agri-foods.
A presentation of these successes - and future plans - were unveiled at the event.
