The Brazilian economy is currently the world’s seventh largest by nominal GDP and by purchasing power parity, and it is predicted to be fifth largest before the end of the decade. As one of the first emerging markets to begin an economic recovery, and home to increasing investment from corporations around the world, the importance of Brazil as an economic partner will only continue to grow.
To help Canadian companies capitalize on the opportunities presented by Brazil, ISTPCanada (together with national and regional partners) organized and hosted the Canada-Brazil Smart Grid Match-Making Mission with events in Toronto, Ontario and Vancouver, BC in early December 2011. The mission convened more than 200 senior leaders from the smart grid industry, utility companies, academia and government from across Canada, Brazil and Chile. This included:
- 60 companies from across Canada
- More than 30 distinguished delegates from Brazil under the leadership of FAPESP (the State of São Paulo Research Foundation) and
- 10 guest delegates from Chile, a key trade partner and fellow nation committed to the creation and adoption of smart grid technologies and energy network
