Harnessing the Power of Canada-California R&D Collaboration to Address Climate Change, Infectious Diseases, Sustainable Energy and Other Global Issues

Ottawa, Ontario and San Francisco, California, February 3, 2010 – The Canada-California Strategic Innovation Partnership (CCSIP), a catalyst for collaborative Research, Development and Delivery (RD&D) between two innovation-intensive jurisdictions, today announced the selection of 15 bilateral projects emerging from its first Call for Proposals (CFP). These initiatives are supported by over $1 million in new research funding, and combine expertise, research resources and investment from both constituencies. They aim to develop novel models of R&D collaboration that address global challenges such as climate change, infectious diseases such as H1N1 influenza, and the demand for sustainable energy. The new projects build on joint R&D initiatives catalyzed by CCSIP to date, including the launch of the Cancer Stem Cell Consortium (Canada) and its novel collaboration with the California Institute of Regenerative Medicine. These organizations recently announced combined funding of $80 million to support two Canada-California teams over the next four years.

OTTAWA, Ontario, November 6, 2009 - International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada (ISTPCanada) and Canada Israel Industrial Research and Development Foundation (CIIRDF) today announced, in Canada, the launch of the first-ever trilateral initiative of its kind - a Canada-China-Israel Call for Proposals (CFP) that aims to stimulate partnership development, collaborative research and development, and the joint commercialization of technologies to enable the sustainable development of agriculture and agri-foods. This CFP was unveiled on November 1st, 2009 at the Yangling Agriculture Hi-Tech Fair in China.

OTTAWA, Ontario, October 14, 2009–International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada (ISTPCanada) today announced the launch of three Canada-Brazil Calls for Proposals (CFP) that aim to stimulate partnership development, collaborative research and development, and the joint commercialization of new technologies. Leveraging investment from the Governments of Canada and Brazil, ISTPCanada and FAPESP (São Paulo Research Foundation) will inject critical funds into small- to medium-sized and established companies that aspire to seize new global market opportunities, and generate collaborative R&D valued at a minimum of $10 million.

OTTAWA, Ontario, July 28, 2009–International Science and Technology Partnerships Canada (ISTPCanada) today announced the launch of a trilateral R&D cooperation program between Canada, China and Israel for the sustainable development of agriculture and agri-foods. Senior leaders from the three nations convened at the Second Canada-China-Israel Roundtable on Agri-Innovation in Ottawa, Ontario to establish actions that advance the collaborative research and development of new technologies for agriculture and related fields, and that help bring them to market. The event will culminate in the signing of The Ottawa Declaration, and announce the first trilateral Call for Proposals (CFP) of its kind.
